Riots don’t accomplish much in terms of change. I hope they find a better way to protest than violence. Riots just create depressed economies and ruins. The Franco-
Africans have a lot of grievances but are going about change in the wrong way.
Riots aren’t usually events that can be predicted, controlled, or planned. We know what type of events can PRECIPITATE riots (police brutality in industrial democracies), but that’s about it. I don’t think they planned these riots, and once they start they run their own course.
I am currently an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University. My specialties are racial politics, urban politics, black politics and public opinion. I am currently working on a book examining the relationship between hip-hop consumption, production, and politics. More information about me and my work can be found here. I can be reached at UNBOWED AT GMAIL.COM
