		<description>I don&#039;t think it&#039;s a cover. Nor do I think it&#039;s within the story. I think this is a standalone. I didn&#039;t think about degradation as much as I did punishment. Good point about villains and slaveowners, I didn&#039;t think about that one.</description>

Without context, I&#039;d guess that Ross is trying to emphasize degradation, first.  Classic Batman motif of torturing him.
Second, solidarity, perhaps on race, perhaps class.  Aligns the villains with slaveowners.  Tricky move, if so, given the right politics often seen in Batman stories.</description>

Man, I have seen your name floating around for a while now, but I never realized until now that you were in St. Louis. I am interested in attending Wash U. sometime this year or next year. 

Wash u grads or professors are all over the place (black prof has one or two.... another great blogger Dr. Errington Thompson also did work there).... to name a few. So small world I guess.
