Hey Lester.

Here is the link to that story I was telling you about. It appeared in The Detroit News. You may want to check it out quick because they don't hold their articles for too long.

When you say "a series of self-sustaining societies," what do you mean exactly? I think I may have an idea, but I want to make sure I'm clear on what you're saying...

Today was one of the first days in a while that I've gotten back to real writing, so I missed it. IF you could send the link I'd appreciate it.

Yeah. Michigan may very well be the first state to die in the 21st Century. Doesn't mean that there's no hope. But what it means is that you all are going to have to be the first ones to figure out how to generate a series of self-sustaining societies.

I really appreciate this article, man, and for obvious reasons since this is my neck of the woods you're writing about. And I do remember that Free Press article quite well.

You may have read a more recent story in today's papers proclaiming that State government offices in Michigan may be forced to shut down beginning in May because that's just how broke we are. Michigan is a state that is not just suffering from being a fading manufacturing economyh in an internet age, it is suffering even more from a manufacturing economy mentality. Until the population here faces up to just how much the world has changed and just how radically we must change just to tread water, we are almost certainly doomed. The way we are approaching things now is pretty much like bringing a knife to a gunfight, to coin an old phrase. I will always have faith that we can make the change, and that we simply won't allow ourselves to go down in flames, but faith without works, as they say, is dead.

Stay tuned.
