Is there a link between rap and alcohol abuse?
New research out of Berkeley suggests that consumers of rap music are more likely to engage in violent acts, and more likely to abuse alcohol than their peers who do NOT listen to rap music. Check it out on Ed Gordon’s News and Notes. This is the line of research that I’m trying to tap into, but there’s a glaring problem here. From a project like this there is absolutely no way to tell whether it’s rap that drives the behavior (doubtful) or whether the people who are more likely to engage in violence are drawn to rap music for one reason or another.
